Job purpose

Billing Specialist prepares, reviews and sends claims to various Insurance Companies, Medicare and Medicaid plans either electronically or by paper in the mail. Maintains patient records to work with other staff, insurance companies and or patient in order to collect reimbursement for services rendered.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Creating weekly billing files for electronically upload of claims to clearing house
  • Creating monthly patient statements, checking for accuracy, stamping attaching letters folding stuffing and mailing
  • Weekly Posting of Insurance EOBs to patient accounts
  • Weekly Posting of patient payments to patient accounts
  • Weekly Working the denial EOBs writing reconsideration or appeal letters to insurance companies
  • Weekly Working aging reports for Insurances you are assigned
    • Checking Claim Status by using the internet site or making phone call to insurance company
    • Using the internet and or calling insurance companies to verify insurance information such as ID numbers groups, payer ID and dates of coverage.
  • Answering phone calls and or Emails from patients, staff and or Insurance companies asking for information/balances on accounts/Creating Groups
  • Uses the Photocopier/Scanner to email/fax information to other departments or entities for further review

Qualifications

Knowledge of medical billing principles is preferred but not required. Data entry and computer work. Math and calculator skills are needed. Must be detailed oriented with communication skills both written and verbal. Must be a motivated team player but also able to work individually and with limited supervision. Ability to stay organized while managing your time and multi-tasking.

Qualifications include:

Working conditions

Billing Specialist work 40 hours per week during normal business hours, location may vary. May have a training in Prescott on occasions

Physical requirements

You will be sitting at a desk the majority of the day
